            Yes, another late update for our Memorable Mondays. It’s just been a lot, to the point where another icon in my childhood passed away too. After I get through these people, it will become a lighter and happier Memorable Monday. So, for this Memorable Monday, we are going to be talking about someone who I remember hearing throughout most of my childhood and a bit of my early adulthood. When I heard about his passing along with other celebrities/icons back-to-back, it felt like pieces of people’s childhood or memories were slowly disappearing along with the people who made those moments unforgettable and meaningful in our lives. Not to hold up the conversation, let’s get it with our Memorable Mondays with Peter Cullen.

A Brief History of Peter Cullen

            Peter Claver Cullen (July 28, 1941 – August 26, 2026) was a Canadian – American voice actor (Unknown, Peter Cullen, 2026). His parents are Henry L. Cullen and Muriel MaCann. His birthplace was Montreal, Quebec, Canada (Unknown, Peter Cullen, 2026). Cullen was widely known for voicing Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise as well as the Michael Bay film series (Unknown, Peter Cullen Biography, 2026).

            Cullen got his start in the entertainment industry, by working at a local radio and TV stations in Canada (Dodge, 2026). Then he later joined The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show (Dodge, 2026).

            His spouses were Carol Ann Balmer (divorced with 2 children) and widow Brandi Cullen (4 children) (Unknown, Peter Cullen Biography, 2026). He has siblings, Larry Cullen and Michaela Cullen, and a grandchild (Unknown, Peter Cullen Biography, 2026). Cullen was also an Emmy winner, having won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards in 2023 (Dodge, 2026). He was also nominated at the Daytime Emmys for his role in Transformers Prime, twelve years earlier (Dodge, 2026). His older brother, Larry Cullen, was the inspiration for the voice of Optimus Prime. His brother was a retired Captain in the United States Marine Corps (Unknown, Peter Cullen Biography, 2026). Cullen based his impression of his brother’s authoritative tone he used while serving in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War (Unknown, Peter Cullen Biography, 2026).

            On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, Cullen passed away in his Los Angeles house. The cause of death has been revealed (Dodge, 2026).

Why was Peter Cullen Memorable?

            He was memorable to me, because he was in most of my childhood shows that I watched. Transformers, Smurfs, Scooby-Doo and Winnie the Pooh. He was in various animated series that I wanted to be in animation when I was younger. Even do some voice acting. It’s just hard to get into the field for me. But I may get into it someday. Or I can just use my platform to make it happen. We’ll see how that goes. His booming assertive voice for Optimus Prime to the slow depressing voice of Eeyore. It’s just still shocking to here that he is gone. To see the love that this man is receiving from his fans, that I still can’t get over that he was the narrator for Toonami. There was a tribute for him on a YouTuber’s channel, SlimD716. A channel that holds classic Toonami and some Adult Swim videos that were remastered in HD by SlimD716 and metroidman7. Toonami was the main hub that got me interested in animation and voice acting. One day, I may be able to make something like that, but for now I focusing on making clay art.

            Anyway, Peter Cullen is memorable, because he is one of the key components to get me into animation and inspiration for watching to enjoy Toonami and other animated series throughout my childhood. Rest in Peace, Cullen. You will be missed.
