What Sydney Sweeney and Jasmine Crockett have in Common?

            Last week, two women made heads…scratch? The people were just trying to figure out what these two women were thinking when they chose to do last week. Where you have an actress, being in a sports ad, but sporting more on what she “wasn’t” wearing more so, that caused people to question her past statements of distancing herself from the “trope” she played in her first breakout role. And then we have a politician, going to Chris Brown and Usher concert to give them the award; more so to Chris Brown. It was like a…huh? Like when you saw her like, “Did you want to get close to Chris Brown?”, and “This is a bad look on you, as a sitting Congressional woman?”. This is some weird and don’t have a clue moment for these two women, to where they are just taking “L’s” for their choices.

Sydney Sweeney “Naked” Betting Ad.

            Staring off with Euphoria actress, Syndey Sweeney, who is currently facing intense backlash over her ad for Novig, a sports prediction market, in which she poses nude; covered only by the likes of basketball hoops (barely) and footballs (pushing on her “assets”); and pretends to play various games (more like trying to “sensual” than “playing”, but whatever) (Navlakha, 2026). After her ad, not only people were calling out on Sweeney’s past statements how dehumanizing she feels (or felt, apparently) when people constantly sexualize her body, to some Olympic athletes condemning her, by accusing the actress of sexualizing women is sports (Navlakha, 2026).

            An American gymnast Graice Kramer, kicked off the trend, posting a viral video of performing and training on her Instagram post (Navlakha, 2026). Kramer wrote under the post, “IDK what Sydney Sweeney was doing but this is what a woman is sports looks like” (Navlakha, 2026). That explains why FYP (For You Page) on Tik Tok was filled with content of people claiming how Sweeney was ruining women’s image in professional sports. Okay…

            Sweeney joined Novig as a “strategic” partner and equity holder (Navlakha, 2026). Well, it did get people talking about it. Even got me writing about it.

            In a statement, Sweeney explained that her campaign was “about embracing a fun idea.” (Navlakha, 2026). “The concept is simple: cut through the noise and put the focus entirely on sports,” she said (Navlakha, 2026) (even though just saying sports constantly, was a bit much). She continues, “The campaign brings that idea to life with confidence, humor and a playful edge.” (Navlakha, 2026).

Jasmine Crockett Gives an Award to “Breezy”.

            Rep. Jasimine Crockett (D-TX) is facing backlash from fellow progressive (and others) after taking the stage at a Chris Brown concert in Texas to honor the signer, while critics are pointing out his sordid history of violence towards women (Gilomour, 2026). Crockett appeared alongside Brown at AT&T Stadium in Arlington last Saturday, where she suggested that his career and impact, along with that of tourmate Usher, where both were formally recognized (Gilomour, 2026).

            “We are here because of Chris Brown!”, shouted Crockett as the crowd erupted, while Brown stood beside her (Gilomour, 2026).

            She continues, “We are experiencing Black joy at the highest level. And I wanted to make sure we document that at the congressional level. So, let’s give it up again for Chris Brown.” (Gilomour, 2026). She ended up embracing the singer before leaving the stand (Gilomour, 2026).

            She wasn’t the only one who presented the award to Chris Brown, Texas state Rep. Venton Jones (D) joined Crockett onstage to present the award to Brown, with a state resolution honoring his achievements in music and entertainment (Gilomour, 2026).

            This appearance quickly drew fire by progressive who were questioning Crockett’s decision in honoring Brown, given his numerous legal issues, including restraining orders and allegations of violence, stretching back to 2009 over a guilty plead to a felony assault on his then-girlfriend Rihanna (Gilomour, 2026).

            The backlash also led to progressive frustration towards Crockett’s lack of pollical advocacy for her former rival, James Talarico, who she last to for this year’s Tevas Democratic Senate primary (Gilomour, 2026).

What was the commonality between Sydney Sweeney and Jasmine Crockett?

            The commonality between them is that they made people have strong reactions towards their decisions and people wondering what was going on in their head when they when making decisions that were very unsavory to the massive.

 For Sydney Sweeney, it was calculated where people can’t keep her name out of their mouth, but would this hurt her in the future. To the point where she wants to be taken seriously as an actress or being just know for showing off her “assets”. Is Sweeney setting professional female athlete for the risqué ad? No! Most people wouldn’t confuse an actress to an athlete.

For Rep. Jasmine Crockett, this is just a bad look on her. To the point where Texas state Rep. Venton Jones apologizes for giving Chris Brown the award. Brown rejecting the award, saying that Crockett and Jones came to him with the award and is mad at Venton Jones for “tap dancing” after Jone’s apology. This just wasn’t wise decision for her to close to Brown, because of his past history him physical assaulting Rihanna, Karrueche Tran putting a restraining order on him, his housekeeper winning a lawsuit against Brown for his dog mauling her in the face and hitting someone with a wine bottle to the head. Just to name a few. The progressive want her to give advocacy to Talarico, but she wants to focus more on down-ballots nominees over supporting her rival Talarico. I can understand her feelings towards her lost, but this just wasn’t the move.

So, what did we learn from these women? Think hard before making a choice. Make sure you consider all the possible outcomes from your decisions. Be ready to stand on business with your decision.
